Pewabic Pottery, Detroit, MI 1903-present Michigan State University is featured on this vintage Pewabic tile. The central image is a building with many windows with FOUNDED 1855 just beneath it. Outside edge has the university name in raised letters. This tile has matte and glossy glazing, with some iridescence and glazed on the sides. The back is especially interesting with all the glossy colors. Tile measures 5 3/4" wide x 5/8" thick. It is in great condition; signed, never set. After the death of Mary Chase Perry Stratton, the pottery remained active until 1965 when it became part of Michigan State Univ. Pewabic reopened in 1968 as an educational institution and museum.
